are the mating surfaces contacting?

they are sloped, with the hose fitting having a female slope, and the bottle side having a pointy one. they need to seal aganst eachother.

clean off the old pipe dope, and try with just a thin coat, if any at all.

an fittings = NO TEFLON!!!!

if its not sealing after you put a little force on it with a wrench and i do mean a little, , it shouldnt take THAT much) then you need to get some new fittings...

Ya, you don't need teflon to seal AN fittings, they are beveled inside the fitting so they should seal with absolutely no sealant needed.

If you overtighten AN fittings you can break them.
